During the 42nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Reliance Industries, the chairman and managing director of the company Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of Jio GigaFiber. The broadband service will be available starting from September 5th. The company expects to complete the rollout of the services by the next twelve months.
Jio GigaFiber: Plans and Bundles
The plans for the broadband service will start from Rs. 700 per month. There will be many other plans available as well and the plans will go all the way up till Rs. 10000 per month. For the base plan of Rs. 700, Jio will provide speeds up to 100 Mbps. Whereas the premium plans will offer the users speeds up to 1 Gbps. Along with the broadband service, Jio will offer free and unlimited voice calls across the country. The service provider will also allow ISD calling service to the US and Canada for Rs. 500 per month from Jio landline.
Jio will be also bundling many OTT applications along with the GigaFiber. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Alt Balaji, etc. can be a part of the GigaFiber plans. Moreover, the company also plans to release a premium service by 2020 which will allow its customers to watch new movies at their home on the same day the movies are released in theatres. Furthermore, Jio will also offer an HD or 4K television along with a 4K set-top box to the customers as a part of their Jio GigaFiber ‘Welcome Offer’. However, it is worth noting that, the offer will be only valid for the customers who purchase the ‘Jio Forever’ plan.
Other than all these things, Jio is also focusing on console-like gaming through their set-top box. The company has already partnered with leading game publishers like Microsoft, Gameloft, Tencent, and a few other companies. The company says Jio GigaFiber will offer great latency so that gaming can be enjoyable.
Finally, Reliance Jio has also announced a long term partnership with tech giant Microsoft. Both companies expect to accelerate the digital transformation of the country with this deal. They will be launching new cloud data centers in the country as well. According to Mukesh Ambani, they will be providing connectivity as well as Jio-Azure cloud services for free to Indian startups.
