The Chinese man won a huge amount but has not disclosed this to his family as he thinks that it will make them lazy or act “superior” to others. The man’s identity has now been disclosed as Li from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

According to the local newspaper, Li purchased 40 tickets containing the same number combinations for each of them. he bought the lottery tickets for 80 yuan ($11), and has a winning payout of 5.48 million yuan (approx. $750,000), bringing the total to 220 million yuan.

He said he did not sleep the night of Oct. 21 when he learned that he has won the jackpot of $30 million. As per the SCMP report, Li received the award on October 24 and donated 5 million yuan ($684,992) to charity. To hide his identity he wore a yellow cartoon character suit and picked up his prize at the Guangxi Welfare Lottery Distribution Center in Nanning City. “I have not told my wife or kid. I am concerned that they might feel superior to other people and will not work or study hard in future,” Li said.

After donating the 5 million yuan to charity and paying 43 million yuan as taxes, Li was able to take home 171 million yuan (approx. $23.4 million). The Chinese man who has been regularly buying tickets for over a decade now considers himself a fan of the lottery game. Li has been buying and betting on the same seven numbers in the past several years simply because they simply looked pleasing to him.

“I only won a few dozen yuan in the past,” he shared. “I regard buying the lottery as a hobby, and my family does not care. Plus, I do not spend much money on it, and the lottery provides a ray of hope for me,” Li further added.

According to SCMP Li said he has not yet thought about how he will spend the money and will take the time to plan it. Li’s wife, despite her lack of knowledge about his husband winning millions, has a right to the winnings as a joint owner of the newly claimed asset under the Chinese Marriage Law.
