Aarey Colony in Goregaon is a lush green area facilitating relief to always running Mumbai. However, this green area is under news as it is about to lose its greenery. As the headlines read,
The Mumbai Metrorail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) recently got approval to cut down around 2,702 trees in order to build a metro 3-car shed in Aarey Colony of Mumbai.
Although development and Metro are necessary, at the cost of so many trees? Is it justifiable? Many of the Mumbaikers are against this decision. Hence, they gathered around Aarey Colony, joining hands and forming a Human Chain.
These were just peoples. Many of them including leading celebrities, all of them were normally braving against the rain with their umbrellas.
The celebrities in this one of the longest Human Chains includes Shraddha Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Raveena Tandon to name a few.
Human chain to #saveaareyforest
Despite of rains & Ganesh utsav preps, Mumbaikars turn up in large numbers & stand in support with trees which are in threat.
Also thank you for @ShraddhaKapoor joining the chain and standing for the cause to Save Aarey.@deespeak @TandonRaveena pic.twitter.com/t70y9kmtkg

Before forming the Human Chain, the Bombay Municipal Corporation received almost 82,0900 complaints opposing the decision of chopping down the trees. However, it doesn’t make any difference to them and were firm on their decision.
Why is Forest in Aarey Colony so important?
Aarey Colony is basically the lungs of Mumbai City. While the city is densely populated with people, this area provides fresh air to entire Mumbai. Apart from that, Aarey Colony is home to tribals, wildlife and a huge source of fresh air for Mumbai.
It is the time when Mumbai needs our support. We just noticed a fire in Amazon Rain Forest and the whole world was eyeing on it. How can we let BMC cut down 2700 trees when they’re so important for a city like Mumbai?
