The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released the crowdsourced data of last month’s internet statistics. TRAI collects data from the individuals using the MySpeed application which is available on both Android and iOS. The app shows the internet speeds of your mobile data connection. Among all the other LTE networks, Reliance Jio had the highest average internet speeds across India during the month of August.
Reliance Jio: Fastest LTE Network During August
Reliance Jio recorded an average of 21.3 Mbps download speed. The average speed is a big amount ahead than the other rival companies, Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea. Airtel came number two in the list. They registered an average of 8.2 Mbps of download speeds over LTE. The download speeds of Airtel went from 8.8 Mbps in July to 8.2 Mbps in August.
Vodafone came third and was having an average download speed of 7.7 Mbps during this time. Their speeds remained constant with no improvements. Idea was the fourth and they had an average download speed of only 6.1 Mbps during August. Their LTE download speeds decreased from 6.7 Mbps in July to 6.1 Mbps.
Coming to the upload speeds, Vodafone became first with an average of 5.5 Mbps. Idea surprisingly came at number two and was having 5.1 Mbps of upload speeds. Reliance Jio was third and they were having an average of 4.4. While Airtel was the last and had 3.1 Mbps average upload speeds.
Even though the Indian telecom operators are working to improve their connections but it is not enough. The pricing might be on the cheaper side but the speeds are absolutely far behind from other carriers around the globe. In recent days, the launch of Reliance Jio GigaFiber brought down the average broadband internet prices down for higher speeds. However, the speeds cellular data continues to stay low compared to other countries.
As per a report published on global speed test leader OOKLA last year, India secured the 109th position around the world. OpenSignal’s report also claims that India has the lowest cellular data speeds among all the 88 nations it surveyed. So, what do you think about your mobile data speeds?
