Hacking of social media accounts and malware infections are pretty common over the internet these days. Clearly the internet is not the safest place. Things can start to look even worse when Twitter CEO’s Twitter profile gets hacked. Recently, Twitter has confirmed that CEO Jack Dorsey’s account was hacked on Friday. A series of racist and anti-Semitic tweets were posted from his account.
Twitter CEO’s Account Hacked
Jack’s account was allegedly hacked by a group named ‘Chuckle Squad’. Twitter has said that they are currently investigating the issue. They have further assured that the account is now back under the CEO’s control and currently it is secure. All the 17 tweets and 6 retweets made by the hacker group has been removed.

The company has also posted a tweet from their official handle saying that their internal systems were not compromised by this attack. As per their claim, the account was hacked due to the phone number associated with Jack’s account. They claim that the phone number was compromised and that lead to hacking of the account. They said,
due to a security oversight by the mobile provider. This allowed an unauthorized person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number
It is not yet clear how the account was hacked. However, as per some initial online reports, the racist tweets were sent via Cloudhopper, a service which the company bought in 2010 to reinforce its SMS service. According to some media outlets, the service works by posting any text message sent to 404-04 on twitter from the phone number’s linked to their accounts.
The report also points out that the ‘Chuckle Squad’ has been accused of hacking Twitter accounts of a number of celebrities and public personalities. In the last week the accounts of beauty vlogger James Charles, Shane Dawson, and Comedian King Back were compromised. While there is still time for Twitter to publish a full report on this matter, it will be exciting to know how the hackers got access to Jack Dorsey’s phone number.
